The MSS Preventive is a steel sleeve developed to reinforce selected sections of new risers prior to field installation. The MSS Preventive is an application of the MEXSSUB Sleeve System (MSS) used for insitu repairs. The MEXSSUB Sleeve System consists of a number of mating sleeve sections which are welded together around a working pipeline. The MSS’s larger diameter creates an annulus between the sleeve and the existing pipe, this space is then filled with a proprietary epoxy resin with a very low heat transfer coefficient that allows the outside surface of the sleeve to remain close to ambient temperature. Applying the MSS on new materials assures greater structural integrity because corrosion and erosion have not yet deteriorated the riser. The created thermal barrier between the riser and the salt water arrests the accelerated rates of corrosion in the splash zone.
New risers protected by the MSS Preventive process will deliver much longer service life and eliminate the need for rehabilitation in the future. MEXSSUB certifies the process, procedures and materials used in the corrosion protection system. All installations of the MSS are also certified by Det Norske Veritas (DNV) through a Type Approval Certificate (D-3050) as a permanent solution to the problem of accelerated localized pipeline failure. Hydrostatic testing by independent laboratories –and supervised by DNV– have demonstrated time after time that even pipelines with severe defects reinforced with the MEXSSUB Sleeve System can sustain operating pressures in excess of the maximum pipeline pressure rating. Classified as a permanent solution, the MSS preventive eliminates the need for future maintenance such as exotic expensive alloy metals (protective covering for the splash zone areas of risers).
Installing the MSS Preventive on new risers is not conducted in-situ so the total assets required and associated costs are significantly reduced. Off-shore assets are highly priced. The daily cost for this solution substancially decreases because there is no need for diving equipment or vessel rental as our product is not installed in-situ. The MSS Preventive offers a financially attractive investment versus a corrective maintenance expense.
MEXSSUB has sold new spool replacements since 1991, and up to date has sold 267 to different clients.
