The HDB Mexssub 131 (Habitat Deployment Barge) is used for the deployment in inland shallow waters of the Mexssub Modular Habitat for horizontal pipelines. Normally, pipelines in inland shallow waters are located in remote areas, therefore the HDB Mexssub 131 requires the support of other vessels such as the LQB Mexssub 121 (Living Quarters Barge), the DSB Mexssub 122 (Diving Support Barge), a supply barge (Mexssub 61) and a shallow draft tug-boat.
HDB Mexssub 131: This jack-up habitat deployment barge is 130 ft long, 40 ft wide and has a 4 ft depth, and has 4 positioning hydraulic legs, to rise itself in lagoons and inland shallow waters that range in depths from 4 ft to 45 ft.
This platform is the main element of the Mexssub Modular Habitat System, and it is where the habitat’s equipment is installed. In this platform, the equipment is positioned, in their respective containers and operated from the platform. The equipment includes: the modular habitat itself, and a control cabin that controls the habitat systems, the rising platform system, and the diving operations. The platform is equipped with an hydraulic system that deploys the habitat, diving equipment, welding equipment, power generation equipment, cleaning and water-blast equipment, a 20 ton crane, inverse-osmosis water treatment equipment, sleeve maneuvering system (inside the habitat), resin injection equipment, inspection and testing equipment, high volume and high compression tanks for nitrogen storage, and gas and water storage facilities.
LQB Mexssub 121: The living quarters barge is 120 ft long, 30 ft wide and 4 ft deep, it has anchors and hydraulic spuds for positioning. It provides living quarters for 48 people and it is autonomous with all the necessary equipment, working as a camp during the length of the operations in remote locations of inland shallow waters. Each of the following quarters are prepared in an independent container so the barge can be easily reconfigured and adapted to the intended job: kitchen, eating area, 6 living quarters with capacity of 8 people each, bathrooms and toilets, laundry room, administrative office, warehouse, power generating equipment, water treatment facilities, hydraulic power equipment, heliport, and storage facilities for gas and water.
DSB Mexssub 122: This barge provides diving and dredging support, it is 120 ft long, 30 ft wide and 4 ft deep and equipped with anchors and hydraulic spuds for temporal positioning. This barge performs preparing jobs prior to the positioning of the HDB Mexssub 131 such as dredging, and pipeline cleaning. This barge can also be used as a deployment and control barge for a small modular habitat for repairs of up to 3 mts in length in pipelines of any diameter.
Like in the LQB Mexssub 121, all equipment is set in modular form in separate containers with the objective of adapting the barge to the intended job. The main equipment in this barge includes: control cabin, life support and diving operations cabin, gas compression equipment, habitat operations equipment, communications and video equipment, power generation equipment, water blast and sand blast equipment, hydraulic power equipment, water treatment equipment, 60 ton hydraulic crane, and storage facilities for gas and water supplies.
Mexssub 61: This supply barge is 60 ft long, 20 ft wide and 4 feet deep, and brings supplies to the different barges with the help of the tug-boat. It has 1200 sq. ft. of deck-space and capacity of 60 tons. Its storage facilities for water and gas are under the deck level. Shallow Draft Tug-Boat: It is specifically designed to work in shallow lagoons and its dimensions are as follows: 35 ft in length, 16 ft in with and 4 ft in depth. It is equipped with two diesel engines of 600 hp each, power generation facilities, enclosed control cabin, and navigation and communications equipment.
